Boomers has long been the source for comfort food in the East Village of Des Moines. When their cookies hit the national stage as a favorite of the first family, the diner needed to step into a new, larger venue. It was important to the client to maintain the feel and connection of their previous space in the new design. The idea of a chalkboard for messages to patrons became a canopy projecting positive thoughts out into the space. The checkered floor became a ceiling element that races through the space. The bar and the pick-up window play off each other in order to point to the dynamic of the chef and host who are co--owners of this comforting establishment.
