Gateway Lofts is located on the western edge of downtown Des Moines, overlooking the Gateway West urban park. The project is designed to house professionals who want to live and work in the downtown area. Unlike a typical apartment complex or hotel, the interior of the building takes a different approach to space management. The main hallway jags and bends, creating small niches and volumes that link units together. The meandering hallway contrasts with the regimented concrete structure and forces irregular unit layouts.
